Conditions were iffy today and I wasn't really feeling like challenging any potential big waves. I've been wanting to check out Mission Point for years but it's hard to make that decision to drive all the way down and do that over anything in La Jolla. Tides seemed pretty favorable so I gave it a try!
Arrived at 7am and there was tons of parking. There were still spots available when I left so I didn't have to go that early. Very short walk and then had the easiest shore entry I've ever done. Then dropped down and explored the wall all the way around the point. The site starts off real shallow at less than 10 feet but then gets deeper as you go around. I hit 25ft before I decided to turn around. I was hit by a surprisingly good amount of surge early on but that turned more into a current as I moved in the the channel. It wasn't too bad but this could be a concern if one were to dive while the tides are changing dramatically.
It's not the most impressive site but there's still a lot to see if you look closely! Nudibranchs are scattered throughout the site. The few navanax worms I saw were all impressively large. The site is mostly along the rocks as you wrap around the point, but on the way back towards shore I went off and combed through the eel grass.
This site is definitely worth checking out. Especially when the surf is up!
